| Behold the quiet calm of pacific waves,
Deceptive peace haunted by spirits' graves, For below the surface broken vessels lay, June sixth of forty-two was the fateful day. |

| Two fleets sailed forth toward Midway,
Men in steel ships sailing in harms' way, One armada proudly flying their rising sun, The other Stars and Stripes into wind would run. |
![]() |
| Proud men and names these vessels each bore,
Lexington, Enterprise, Yorktown, and more, Japans' pride Kaga, Hiryu, Akagi, and Soryu too, Pressing forward to a destiny neither knew. |
![]() |
| First strike flew Imperial Zeros and Kates,
Smashing at Midway, which they hoped to take, Defenders fought for their lives with tooth and nail, Had they been alone they had little chance to prevail. |
![]() |
| Gambling all Admiral Spruance sent his into the fray,
Devastators, Dauntless, and Wildcats made their play, Pilots briefed before, the plan was to attack as one, Scattering on their way the plan again undone. |
![]() |
| Bingo fuel, desperate to find the elusive enemy fleet,
Yet then luck turned or perhaps fate was theirs' to meet, Yes, there below circling madly on that shining sea, Four carriers, Torpedo attack regardless Zeros we see! |
![]() |
| Low straight into hail of fire forty and one planes dive,
Lose torpedoes at targets yet only four will survive, Not a single hit as their broken planes slip from sight, Their foes stare out, contemplate the pilots' lack of fright. |
![]() |
| And yet perhaps their brave sacrifice was not in vain,
Pulling down the Zeros now came Dauntless with steel rain, Attacking carriers with bomb, fuel, and plane strewn decks, As the Dauntless fly away three carriers are blazing wrecks. |
![]() |
| Before days' end, brave Yorktown and Hiryu lost,
Below these waters lie, a sad measure of the cost, Yes, Behold the quiet calm of pacific waves, Lest we forget, Deceptive peace haunted by spirits' graves….. |
